Bullet Parenting Classes

  • 8-WEEK PARENTING CLASSES

    Through the Family Support Consortium, an 8 week series of parenting classes is being offered at three Family Support Centers.  The series will be offered at each Center three times each year - Fall, Winter and Spring.  The Parenting Series is designed to help parents cope with the stress that inevitably comes along with raising young children, find new ways to solve problems, give positive attention and manage behavior.

    • SHAKER FAMILY CENTER'S PARENT UNIVERSITY
      Parent University features monthly discussions on topics of interest to parents raising young children.   
      Programs held at Shaker Family Center, 19824 Sussex Road, Shaker Heights <map> from 7:30 – 9:00 pm. 
      Fee:  $5 in advance or $7 at door.  Please call 216-921-2023 to register.


      • Tuesday, Jan 15 - "Raising Girls in the 21st Century" a parenting workshop and discussion featuring guest speaker, Dr. Elaine Schulte, Chair of the Department of General Pediatrics at the Cleveland Clinic. This session will offer medical, development, and emotional information, pertinent to female children, current in today's environment.
      • Tuesday, Feb 12 - "Promoting Early Childhood Learning" a hands-on parenting workshop and discussion featuring Carol Nursery School Early Childhood Educator, Susan Pfaff. This session will provide helpful tips and information on promoting early learning for your young child.
      • Tuesday, Mar 18 - "Toilet Training Success" a parenting workshop and discussion featuring Joan Morgenstern, MA, and Director of Early Childhood Services at the Mandel Jewish Community Center of Cleveland. This session will focus on helpful information and tips in achieving success in toilet training.
      • Tuesday, April 15 - "Kindergarten Readiness" a parenting workshop and discussion featuring early childhood consultant, Joan Spoerl, MA. Learn helpful ways to prepare yourself and your preschooler for an easy transition into kindergarten.

    Bullet Support Groups

    • What: ADHD FAMILY SUPPORT GROUP , sponsored by Heights Parent Center
      When: Wednesdays, 7:00-8:30 pm

      • December 12th – Organization
      • February 13th – Social Skills and ADHD
      • April 16th  – Helping Yourself as a Parent

    Parents and other concerned adults are welcome to attend this topic driven support group about children with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) hosted by Megan Rochford, PC.

    Programs held at the Cleveland Heights/University Heights Main Library, 2345 Lee Road <map>

    The program is free, childcare provided for $2.00 per child with a $5.00 family max.

    Bullet FAMILY FUN EVENTS

    • The 6th Annual "Play It Safe" Event.

      This annual family event, co-sponsored by Heights Parent Center and the National Council of Jewish Women Cleveland Section, was created to try to spread the word to parents about the dangers of violent toys and to educate parents about gun safety. The event highlights constructive, imaginative and non-violent ways for parents and kids to play together.

      This year's event will feature opportunities for kids and parents to make crafts, dance to DJ Terry Macklin, participate in a Tae Kwon Do and Little Gym demonstrations, and receive information about gun safety and other important information for parents. Through a partnership with the City of Richmond Heights Police Department, gun locks will be given out. Additional partners include Home Depot, The Little Gym, Asian Sun Martial Arts and the Natural History Museum.

      Who: The event is free and open to all.
    • MOVIE NIGHTS AT HEIGHTS PARENT CENTER

      Something Fun to do on a Friday evening. For families with young children (old enough to sit through a whole movie, probably over 2). Come with blankets, sleeping bags and pajamas. Heights Parent Center, 14780 Superior Road <map>

    • 1st Annual National Film Festival at Shaker Family Center February 22nd, 2008 - LUNAFEST: Films By, For and About Women.
      LUNAFEST is a fundraising film festival dedicated to promoting awareness about women's issues, highlighting women filmmakers, and bringing women together in their communities. This unique film festival will highlight women as leaders in society, illustrated through 9 short films by women filmmakers. All proceeds to benefit Shaker Family Center and the Breast Cancer Fund. <map>

    • Fourth Annual Used Toy Sale at Shaker Family Center: Gently used children's toys and equipment will be sold with all proceeds to benefit the Shaker Family Center.

      When: Wednesday, March 12, 9:00 am - 6:30 pm, and Thursday, March 13: 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

      Tax deductible donations gladly accepted at Shaker Family Center on Monday, March 10 or Tuesday, March 11, between 9am and 3pm. Items needed include gently used children's toys, books, games, puzzles, riding toys, baby equipment, etc. Donated items should be clean, working, complete (containing all pieces and parts) and age appropriate (for children birth to six years). Please include batteries for battery operated and electronic toys. No stuffed animals or car seats, please.
